Hackberry bow continued

So Im still working on the same Hackberry stave. Upon shaping and wondering if the bark side of the stave is really going to be the back or not I decided it could help to make a bow bench. Which didnt take long it was mostly getting it to my size. I have been very slowly working the stave down trying to decide where the back will be and if the ring is thick enough to support a short bow but Im having trouble seeing it.

Hackberry Bow

Well im at it again, building a new bow out of Hackberry. The last one didnt fair too well and it tore out too much from the sides but Ill be going slower in the process and wont use the hatchet so much lol.

Bushknife

I began to work on a bushcraft style knife. this wont be a typical bushcraft knife due to its not as plain. Ive had the design in my head for a long time and Im hoping that I will be able to forge it. I finally have everything together the way i need it to be in my garage lol. This shouldnt be difficult tho Ive never attempted all this before.

Ive read many articles and watched countless videos did as much studying as I could to get a level idea on how to approach this. Ive aquired plenty of spring steel from trucks out of the scrap yard and I think Im ready to give it my best, heres to swollen forearms and a broader shoulder...

And for an update on the bow, its still drying. Im slow touching on a few things with it yet, but in time when its ready.

Bow work...

Well I did it, I began working the bow stave and I think I went way to soon too fast. Its a long bow its Hackberry but I noticed theres alot of tear out from the sides of the limbs. Which is making it narrower than I wanted I should have probably waited til next year or even October, but I wanted to work on a bow and I have two more staves drying. So its not a total loss. I will be working on getting pictures of it and the other staves and post em here. Plus a picture of a knife Im forging.

Making a bow..

I decided to try my hand at making a bow. This is going to be from Hackberry which is quite dense but I have alot of it. It started out as a large log like around 15 inches. Large I know but I can make more this way should I mess it up. After cutting I sealed the ends with paint, acrylic, and then after a week I began to split it. Wasnt fun without proper tools but I got it done, I cant use part of it but I got it. Now its drying out and I wait patiently. Also I want to try and make my own arrows but Im having trouble finding the infomation to learn. I will post pictures as soon as I can and along the shaping and tillering as I work.
